Root Canal Therapy

What is a root canal?

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures and well over 14 million are performed every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges.

At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels and nerve fibers that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Damage to the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the damage can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth (infection), sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the tooth and gums (inflammation).

How is a root canal performed?

If you experience any of these symptoms, your dentist will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed prior to treatment or when a complication becomes evident. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. You will be able to drive home after your treatment, and you probably will be comfortable returning to your normal routine.

What happens after treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist. You should contact their office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion at our office. Your restorative dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. If a problem does occur, however, we are always available. To prevent further decay, continue to practice good dental hygiene.

PAINLESS. When getting Novocaine for dental work the initial injection usually hurts. Today even that was painless. Everyone was friendly and considerate. If you need root canal work done I highly recommend this office.

Would recommend to anyone looking to have a root canal done, this was my first time, and it went by fast, I was worried it was going to take hours and the thought of having to hold my mouth open for that long scared me... but it only took an hour and I was done start to finish. The staff and Dr's are very nice and very informative,

I was very impressed with this practice. I was sent right from my dentist, Dr. Weitman, for an emergency visit. I was told I might have to wait since I did not have an appointment and this was an emergency visit, but actually it was a very short wait. The dental tech was great, the dentist was great and the staff was amazing. Even though my problem could not be fixed, I left the office feeling confident that they had done everything they could to help me. I would definitely return if needed and I would highly recommend this office.

I had been avoiding going to the dentist for many years due to previous traumatic experiences as a child, but I was having lots of pain so I knew it was time. To my biggest disappointment I needed a root canal, which I have heard form many is very painful. I was super anxious when I went in and was expecting the worst. I explained my concerns to Mr. Goldman and he completely made me feel at ease. He explained the whole process in great detail and made me feel like I was in good hands. He made sure my mouth was very numb and then he proceeded to quickly work on my tooth, in the meantime telling me what a good job I am doing and cracking a few jokes along the way! Before I knew it, the procedure was over. All I could think of was "That's it??". I was worried for nothing. I felt no pain or discomfort, not even after the anesthesia wore off! I am extremely satisfied with my visit and would strongly recommend this office to anyone looking for high quality, thorough service! THANK YOU
